Position Title: Neurophysiology Technician (EEG/PSG)

Reports To: Principal Investigator & Study Coordinator

Job Classification: Casual Appointment (as-needed shiftwork)

Location: Riverview (primary), JBRC (secondary)

Duration: Expected to be no longer 13 months

Hours: as long as needed to set-up and remove EEG/PSG (set-up begins at 7pm, removal begins at 8am)

Position Overview: We are seeking a Neurophysiology Technician with familiarity in electroencephalography (EEG) and polysomnography (PSG) to apply high-density EEG and PSG. The ideal candidate will have experience with the Natus Xltek EMU 128 and Sapphire PSG from CleveMed, and will be adept at applying electrodes to ensure that they remain securely in place overnight for optimal continuous artifact-free recording.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare subjects for EEG and PSG recordings, including skin preparation and electrode application.
  • Utilize the Natus Xltek EMU 128 and Sapphire PSG systems for accurate data collection.
  • Employ collodion and/or other specialized adhesives to secure electrodes, ensuring they remain intact throughout overnight sleep studies.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot equipment to ensure high-quality recordings.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all procedures, settings, and any challenges encountered during the study. Examples include measurements, electrode positions, etc.
  • Collaborate with the research team to ensure all protocols are followed and contribute to data analysis and interpretation as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Post-secondary.
  • Experience: Familiarity with high-density EEG and PSG recordings, especially using the Natus Xltek EMU 128 and Sapphire PSG systems is preferred.
  • Certifications: CBRET or ABRET certification preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in EEG/PSG electrode application and use of collodion.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex protocols.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating an ability to work effectively in a team environment, and maintaining professionalism and collegiality with study subjects, their caregivers, and study team members.
    • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure, particularly in troubleshooting scenarios.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity required for electrode application.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to transport self between different work sites as necessary.
